Nick,
Great review – good point on the photos. I agree that it seemed they were promoting the area, instead of the college. The snowboard photo was amazing, but it didn’t seem to fit on a college site. Good analysis of their code – it was odd to see the mixture of divs and tables. Thanks for the promo for Refresh Detroit!

You need the GA script up top of you are doing advanced stuff on the page like the onClick function… which is interesting because you have it on the bottom of your Wayne State homepage and I know ya’ll use GA to track flash on that page. I’m wondering if you aren’t under reporting.
Check out the bottom of this article on the Google Help where they mention you need the call before the function.
Here’s what it says:
Important: if your pages include a call to _trackPageview, _setAllowLinker _trackTrans(), your Analytics tracking code must be placed in your HTML code above any of these calls. In these cases the tracking code can be placed anywhere between the opening tag and the JavaScript call.

Hmm.. You make a good point. We load the flash after the page loads but I am not 100% that if you are on a slow connection the GA will load before the flash runs.We are catching visitors but you make me want to investigate it a little bit more to guarantee we are not missing anyone.

@Nick – Swap it for a week and see if your pagevisits are significantly more over the time frame. Or you could do an A/B test with the tracking code at the bottom 50% and top 50% but that’s probably more work.
