Today’s Tip:

When ever you are naming your files and folders always make sure the name relates to the page content. It now only orients the user who just received the link from a friend but it also helps search engines relate your URL to the users search terms to your pages. Make sure they are meaningful to the content on each page.

Today’s Tip:

Your university public facing web site should give your users all the tools they need to make an informed decision. Having too much information behind a firewall or login can detract prospective students because it creates a barrier to the information they need. Remember the first priority of your public facing web site is prospective students.

Today’s Tip:

Having new/events related promotions into sub pages is a great way to engage students in related content without forcing them to visit your homepage. Using categories or tags on your promotions or news and events you can use that to include them in child pages where your students may be coming into your site from a search engine or bookmark. Its a way to get visibility to your new and events off of your homepage, something similar to how Google Adwords work.

Today’s Tip:

When using tables on a page always make sure the design of the table enhances the information inside of it. Make sure the user can quickly scan and get an idea of the content while at the same time being able to clearly read specifics. That means adding more spacing around the cells so content does not run into other cells and possible adding zebra stripe background colors to the rows so the user can see related information across a line without their eyes crossing into other columns.
