Today’s Tip:
Screen real estate is expensive, especially on the homepage. Make sure every pixel has a purpose, use images to call attention to areas that update often like news and events so users don’t just scan over them. Remove anything that is not necessary to get your users to take that next step, like removing the description if the news title is enough.

Thanks for the review Nick. We are in the eduStyle Gallery – unfortunately, we appear under “T” for The College of William and Mary.

Susan,
Thanks for pointing this out. I fixed the title on here and Viddler.

This is a great review. Always good to get an opinion from someone not so close to the project. We launched the new top-level site last July and are diligently working on migrating academic and administrative departments to the new look and our new CMS (unfortunately, you picked French which hasn’t been migrated yet). One thing I found interesting is the critique on getting back to the W&M home page. You mention the breadcrumb and eventually used the image in the footer but we followed what we considered to be standard use of the logo to return to the home page but you didn’t either find it or mention it. Interesting usability point.
