Clemson University – Episode #58

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Site Scores:

Site Visual Information Code Overall
Clemson University 83 66 72 (221/300) 74% C

Today’s Tip:

It is my recommendation to omit the date created and last modified dates from Web pages. Everyone has a different idea of when content is up to date and your idea might be every semester but your users idea might be a few days. If they think your content is out of date they either pick up the phone and call someone or they will give up and leave your site.  The best bet is to leave the dates off your pages and your users will assume they are up to date.

Today’s Tip:

There is no fold, the fold myth is a myth. As long as you can show there is something worth scrolling for the user will scroll. Don’t be afraid to put information beyond the fold, it is not necessary to put all the information above the fold, just the primary information.

University of Louisville – Undergraduate Admissions – Episode #56

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Site Scores:

Site Visual Information Code Overall
University of Louisville – Undergraduate Admissions 97 94 65 (256/300) 85% B

Today’s Tip:

Don’t be afraid of using white space. Give your users eyes a rest and make your content stand out more by placing enough padding and spacing around elements to allow for elements to stand out. This also includes picking a line height that is ~1.4em’s to allow for fast scalability.
